Farm to Table

Standard

Recently I have taken a position with two delightful establishments run by the most amazing people I have met in a long time. Utica Bread and The Tailor & The Cook. We take much pride in our service and quality of product. Both places use local NY State local farms for produce and all other products we use to make you your delicious foods!

Utica Bread is a brand new bakery with such delicious treats for a quick on the go, healthy and local meal. We do have a case of pastries to die for that aren’t healthy per say but a treat once in a while is never a bad thing. The bakery uses no preservatives and there is always a wonderful happy face there to greet you and inform you of all the lovely products we offer. From cheeses, breads, pastries and deli salads, you will never walk away without a smile on your face. It’s a lovely place in Baggs Square, Utica. We want you to stop by and support the local community!!

UB EarlyUB Later The Tailor & The Cook has just been rated one of the top 100 restaurants in America. THAT IS AMAZING. I am so proud to be apart of all of this we some of the most talented and beautiful people I have been around in a while. The menu is to die for and changes based on availability of products and the season. The servers are all so wonderful and smiling all of the time. You will enter and leave with a smile on your face. As I learn more and more, so will you!

Rosé {R&R&R}

Standard

With the school year during intercession, and just working full time, I have been really on a R&R kick. There are a few things this break that have gotten me to this very calm, slightly reclusive, and health fanatic state. Also the time to be able to post my thoughts. Hopefully this semester will keep this track. I feel strong and better then ever, sometimes you really do just need a break from the chaos of it all.

~Rosé – I can honestly say that I have drank at least twenty bottles of Rosé. All different flavors, it is so amazing. Dry and bubbly, just the way I like it. My top three choices of this break were:\

  1. Old School Cinsault RoséOLD+SCHOOL+ROSE
  2. Broadbent Vinho Verde (As Always)
  3. Moët Chandon RoséRose-Imperial_fixed_1280x1096
  4. Mumm Napa Brut Rosé1_1522750_3

There is this new APP for both Android/iPhone platforms called *Delectable* which I have been using very frequently to track the wines that I drink. It is used a lot by Sommeliers and those who really know wine more so than casual wine drinkers but I very much so recommend all to start using it!

~Sauvignon Blanc

1. NYE was filled with much alcohol, and mostly Champagne & Sauvignon Blanc with two of my human beings from a hometown family. It was quite a messy situation, but we all made it out alive and standing…. I think. Anyway, the Wine was from Ninety Cellars, and has a delightful, crisp taste that is to die for.

~Gin & Lemon Whiskey Cocktails

I had many of these cocktails at one of my favorite bars downtown Rochester called Ox & Stone(http://www.oxandstone.com/). Great bartenders, great cocktails and a old timey feel with dim lights. Very nice for an evening of brooding. 😉

This weekend I will be traveling the East Coast to visit some dear friends and I will be loving the life for sure. I will be excited to document yet another trip of good food, good alcohol, and of course my best friends. As my relaxation continues, I must get back to work so as to finish all my paperwork before I depart tomorrow.

Boston, here I come!

The Italian Wonders of Utica, NY

Standard

For those of you who did not grow up or ever visit central NY, there are a few delicacies that came out of the Italian aspects of Utica. Reasons that Utica is known for it’s many Italian assets is due to the Mafia. The Italian Mafia ran the greater portion for a long time and all their old, rich familial traditions stuck with the area.

Here are my favorite Italian Utican delicacies. I hope you all enjoy!

1. Chicken Riggies – I made my own Riggies yesterday. They were so freaking delicious. Cream and red sauce, peppers and onions, lots of spices and slow roasted chicken, all poured over a bed of Rigatoni. SO AMAZING!

2. Half Moons – The infamous black and white cookie. The only truy good kind can be found in Utica.

3. Italian Wedding Soup – Became very big in Utica when the ‘Wedding Soup’ was introduced. Originally came from a Spanish nation, they definitely knew what they were doing. Italian wedding soup contains meat and greens in a clear broth; the meats either sausage or small meatballs, the greens escarole, chard, cabbage, spinach, broccoli, rabe, chicory, endive, lettuce, or kale.

4. Utica Greens – My favorite dish. The way some restaurants cook these greens, there is no explanation of the delicious flavors. It is just that good. Buttery and spicy, this appetizer NEEDS to be eaten with every meal. ESCAROLE WITH PROSCUITTO, HOT PEPPERS, GRATED CHEESE, AND BREADCRUMBS.

5. Tomato Pie – A cold, pizza like baked good. Tomato sauce and a lot of Italian spices, with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. Certain bakeries in Utica make some so delicious, you want to eat the whole sheet.

Philly Life

Standard

This week ends a huge portion of my life journey to receiving my PhD in both Theoretical & Computational Chemistry and Chem-Informatics. I am finishing up my nine month job as a Systems & Strategic Operations Co-Op at Janssen Research & Development. I have loved living in the town of Conshohocken and Philly area. I have met so many great people it is going to be hard for me to leave.

As one last hoorah, my best friend David is coming to visit tonight and I’m finally going to get the chance to see Feed Me in concert. They are performing at the Theater of the Living Arts. I will most definitely be writing all about the show, and especially about finally being able to see the TEEEEEEEEETH.

There are a few people that I must mention in this post, because I have experience some great memories and had a lot of support from the very beginning.

To my landlord Tom: You go around raving about how I am your replacement daughter and that is a for sure thing. You were a great person to have around, to talk to and to laugh about life with. I will be back in nine months looking for my new place!

To my boss Adam: I have never met someone more like me in my entire life. You have inspired me so much. If everyone in the world was like you, things would get done the right way. You definitely will never leave my life. Your laugh and mind are too great and powerful for that.

To my amazing co-workers: You have taught me so much. To love what I do, to keep pushing and to relax and love the path I take. Never fear using my knowledge, and Devo and Birds are two of the best things in the world. (LOL.)

To Zahara, Mikey, Lana: Thanks for becomming my friend. You were so fun to get to now and to be around. You all share the love of designer bags and being fabulous with me. Love you all very much.

Much love and thanks to all the other people I didn’t mention. I am almost ready to start my trip back to NY, a week of rest and relaxation at my parents house and then off to my new apartment. I have a case of Rose waiting for me there. 😉
