This weekend I discovered another herbal anti-anxiety that I believe works really well! It is called Kava (sometimes, Kava-Kava). It is a plant found and used by many Pacific Island states.

Some say it has holistic properties and some use it for anxiety. The thing to remember about Essential Oils ad Extracts are the same for any type of substance. Every person has a different tolerance so some people can really feel the effects and some people can hardly feel them at all.

The Genus and Species is Piper methysticum. The root of the plant is pulverized to make drinks or teas that can ease a person’s mind while maintaining clarity. It’s used for temporary relief from anxiety, stress, and insomnia. Kavalactones are the API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) that are in many anti-depressants and anxiety medications and can provide a similar state of mind but all natural!

There are a lot of benefits to eating spicy foods. I myself love spicy everything, perhaps even carry around Hot Sauce packets in my school bag in case of a low HEAT emergency. All International Food is my favorite. Some of the best food is the little random markets and diners that you find in the middle of cities, ‘hidden gems’ you could say.

This is the chemistry behind spice and its ‘capsicum’ levels and how as you approach 100% capsaicin, how the heat becomes a poison:

Capsaicin is present in large quantities in the placental tissue (seed location), the internal membranes and, to a lesser extent, the other fleshy parts of the fruits of plants in the genus Capsicum. The seeds themselves do not produce any capsaicin, although the highest concentration of capsaicin can be found in the white pith of the inner wall, where the seeds are attached.

CAPSAICIN

The burning sensation caused by capsaicin when it comes in contact with mucous membranes is commonly used in food products to give them added spice (piquancy). In high concentrations, capsaicin will also cause a burning effect on other sensitive areas of skin. The degree of heat found within a food is often measured on the Scoville scale.

Bell peppers are structured so that they eliminate capsaicin, hence why they do not have any spice.

Certain wines use ‘capsicum’ to add flavor and certain heats to wines. It gives certain wines that peppery taste. Look on the descriptions of the bottles or ask a sales associate!

Everyone should start adding spice to everything in their life. Give all your food a little kick. It boosts your metabolism and makes everything taste so much better. Sriracha is my personal favorite hot sauce. It’s got a very complex flavor that goes well with many things (eggs, sandwiches, asian spiced foods).

Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil is one of my favorite all natural cure alls. It is good for your health, skin and all natural. It is taken from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia, which is native to Southeast Queensland and the Northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia. It has this calming and soothing smell about it.

My favorite body wash is made with tea tree oil and it keeps my skin so nice and smooth. The brand is called Body Essence and you can get it basically at everywhere Wal-Mart, etc.

Buying the actual Tea Tree Oil, you can find it at The Vitamin Shoppe (in various brands and forms) but my personal favorite is The Body Shop, it treats blemishes really well.

I recommend that everyone start using this natural cure all and seeing what uses you can find for it. Google it, there are many different ways to use Tea Tree Oil! If you love your skin as much as I do… you WILL want this product.

Blueberries

I love blueberries TOO much. I have been on the biggest blueberry kick for the past few months and I cannot stop.

Blueberry Kefir, Tea, Homemade Jam from a Farm Fresh Amish Bakery, Smoothies, Body Scrubs made from all Natural Ingredients (Philadelphia Find on Market Street), and Chilled White Organic Blueberry Tea made by INKO’s brand.

There are so many reasons why people should eat blueberries.

1. The high antioxidant content. You receive plenty of high Vitamins that help to boost your Immunes System. These antioxidants neutralize free radicals in your body that help to prevent aging and sickness.

My newest feat was making blueberry vinaigrette. Paired it with a Kale salad (my other favorite super food right now), which you can see in this recipe. It was so delicious. A fresh fruit salad with Kale. What could be better.

I cannot wait to go to the Rochester Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning because I will have all of the fresh vegetables I will ever need. The best foods can be found at that market. I will have to document my way through the DELICIOUS foods of the Rochester South Wedge Farmer’s Market.

Aloe

There is this new product that I have found that is so good for you digestion, regulating, hydration, and I even know a girl with Hyperthyroidism that takes it and says has improved her quality of life. ALOE WATER. They have a lot of aloe waters and gels in many places, always in Natural Food stores that I tend to frequent. It is so good for you. Any extra details and specifics can obviously be explained by them chemical composition of the allow plant aiding your system. Here are the reason why I drink it:

In the midst of moving and such, there has been little sleep, little time, and a lot of stress. I have so much to blog about! Many new posts will be coming. But as I am trying to avoid the sickness I feel I am about to get, I will go drink my aloe water. Cheers my friends!

The Hangover

We all have one. One that was an hour. One that lasted two days. You cannot make them go away, but you can shorten their life cycle and reduce the sheer pain that one night of fun can do to yourself. I have had enough experience dealing with hangovers to know how to deal with it, though it is a for sure thing, the older you get, the worse they get.

There are some partial remedies that are super helpful:

Before Bed:

1. WATER

2. Kefir ~ Packed with healthy and helpful bacteria and vitamins, it provides digestive relief for the horrible feeling of a churning stomach. Also used frequently in my mother land of Russia for those awful vodka hangovers.

3. Eating something bad with carbs always helps to soak up some of the booze before bed. My best friend Molly always makes the best drunk grilled cheeses, always a GREAT option. Of course pizza, crackers, and munchie food are great options as well.

In the AM:

1. WATER ~ Can never drink enough!

2. Pure Juice Concentrate ~ You need something to get your blood sugar back to normal levels, that isn’t filled with processed sugar and other unnatural ingredients. Granted concentrate is more expensive, but it is worth it.

3. Greasy breakfasts ~ Toast, eggs, bacon or sausage, potatoes, and many grilled veggies help you to get back food and energy into your body. For those first morning meals, sometimes it’s best to find a diner or drive-thru to get breakfast.

4. Steam shower or bath ~ Opens up all pores and help remove so many toxins in the body very quickly. Revitalizes you like no other method.

5. Yoga and Stretching at the end of the day to help your body recirculate and to realign your bones and muscles from sitting or laying down for so long in recovery. Help to sweat out a few more toxins.

6. Smoking is one of the best cures for nausea and pain, so smoke away the day because you already know you aren’t going anywhere and you aren’t going to be productive.

 

Good Morning!

Monday. It’s always the worst coming out of a weekend and realizing that you cannot sleep in, you cannot smoke another bowl in the morning, you cannot have the breakfast cocktail you so desire. I allow myself to have Sunday Fatday for my cravings and fixes so I usual wake up to a still full tummy which is never a good feeling. It is also a good reminder of how you feel when you eat slightly unhealthily and how the rest of the week you should stick to your strict food and exercise schedules.

Monday is also the day I regain my strength. Get back into the mindset I need to be in to complete the week, get a step closer to my ultimate goals. My Monday morning kick-starters are usually a Cosmic Cranberry Kombucha and definitely lots of coffee with some sort of flavoring. Remember, you can only be powerful if you keep up your level of success and intensity that is being powerful. I just love the word…. POWERFUL.

Kombucha is one of my most essential healthy items. It has so many benefits for you, and really helps your digestion. There are many types of Kombucha but GTs is most definitely my recommended product. SO GOOD.

This week is EXTREMELY exciting to me because I get to go up to NY and move into my new apartment!It’s always to fun to have a new place. Especially when you live with your best friends!

So as this is a short week for me, this is a good week because I can live a little extravagant and careless for a few days which is definitely something that I need. A TRUE VACATION is what I need to take, but that never just seems to be on my table of decision making. For all of you with the Monday blues, remember, put on some extra lipstick and put your powerful face on and prove to yourself all the things you can do. Remember to love yourself and to never be ORDINARY.
