The Power of Lavender

Recently I have been trying to turn to more natural substitutes for stress and anxiety. My conclusion has been to turn to everything Lavender.

Lavender Essential Oil has been allowing me to sleep, relax my muscles and have a great scent around me at all times. Mixed in with my Chanel No. 19, a strange amount of people have told me that I smell very delightful.

There are many uses and benefits to using this oil and turning away from Prescriptions or harsher solutions so frequently. Don’t take me wrong, I love my Xanax and Valium, but it is best to stay non-reliant on Benzodiazapenes. (Comment on this post if anyone wants a lengthy post on Benzos!)

At bed time I rub the oil on my temples, my wrists and the soles of my feet. These are the most porous parts that allow the oil to enter the bloodstream. It allows you to release tension and stress. Inhaling the scent in three deep breaths also allows for the mind to calm quickly.

Other Uses:

1. Sleep Aide

2. Cuts/Scrapes

3. Insect Bites & Stings

4. Motion Sickness

5. Dry & Chapped Sunburn Skin

… There is a whole list of things it could be used for. My sister is currently with child and she has been using it for various aches and pains in her pregnancy. I won’t write up on it more because it is not my experience but there are a few great posts on the topic throughout the Blogosphere.

Now as I pour myself a glass of Moët, I’ll add a few drops of Lavender Oil as it is very okay to ingest. Adds a great floral taste. One of my favorite Liquors is actually Lavender based. Similar to Creme de Violette.

Cheers!

Let’s Talk Spain

Standard

Spanish Wines is something I have recently started to get into. They have been making some great wines and blends recently with some very native and global grapes. Some of their main grapes, mostly indigenous of Spain are:

Red Grapes:

  • Cariñena
  • Garnacha
  • Monastrell
  • Tempranillo

White Grapes:

  • Albariño
  • Godello
  • Torrontes

There wines are fruity, bold and smokey, with the exception of some more neutral grapes for dinner wines and summer days. The Albarino grape is a very light grape with a resemblance to Vermentino and Verdelho white grapes of the world.

There are three different levels of quality you find in Spain that law has required for labelling it’s designation.

  • Crianza red wines are aged for 2 years with at least 6 months in oak. Crianza whites and rosés must be aged for at least 1 year with at least 6 months in oak.
  • Reserva red wines are aged for at least 3 years with at least 1 year in oak. Reserva whites and rosés must be aged for at least 2 years with at least 6 months in oak.
  • Gran Reserva wines typically appear in above average vintages with the red wines requiring at least 5 years aging, 18 months of which in oak and a minimum of 36 months in the bottle. Gran Reserva whites and rosés must be aged for at least 4 years with at least 6 months in oak.

I URGE everyone to try some Gran Reserva and a Spanish Rose in the near future.

2010 Un Paso Mas Red Blend

Cheers everyone!

I am going to start posting more and more wines, because we all know that being a wino is everything and a way of life. I drink a lot of wine, and am quite knowledgeable about it, especially those who are chemically inclined enough to understand the process.

Reds are just the best. Red wine will always make you happy and feel lime you have a velvety blanket around you. These four reds are a Cabernet Heavy Red Blend, two Cabernet Sauvignons, and a Pinot Noir.

  • Franciscan Estate – Magnificat – 2011 – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Verdote, Malbec Blend
  • Seven Oaks – J. Lohr – 2012 – Cabernet Sauvignon
  • [Noble Vines] – 337 – 2012 – Cabernet Sauvignon
  • La Crema – 2012 – Pinot Noir

The bottles all average around $12-$14 dollars and the Magnificat is around $40. The Magnificat was one of the best red blends I have ever tasted. It was smooth velvety and filled with smooth flavors. One thing you will learn is that I do not like sweet wines. I love wine filled with tannin and  delicious velvety flavors. The second bottle was a very delicious Cab, it was not as smooth as the first. The flavors were a little more harsh and acidic. The third bottle is bottled from one of my favorite wineries, [Noble Vines]. The have many different bottled wines that will most likely be seen throughout my posts. It is always smooth, medium body and delicious for a Cab. The last bottle is the La Crema. This Pinot Noir was very lightly bodied and smooth. It is always a good red for during the day, for dessert, pr for just a lighter wine in general.

Cheers Bitches!

Birthday Party!

Standard

My best friends 22nd Birthday was this weekend so naturally we had to do it up right.

Appetizers:

Crab Rangoon, Buffalo Wings, Jalapeño Poppers, Mac N’ Cheese Bites, and Bruschetta was on the menu.

Drinks:

Goose Joose I made from Lemonade Concentrate, Red Bull, Not Enough Vodka (in reality more than should ever be), Triple Sec, Peach Schnapps.

Bottles of Moët Chandon and Veuve Clicquot were passed throughout the party. We do things the right way. TOP SHELF.

If there is one thing I love about my friends, we all give and give in to peer pressure within about 5 seconds. Everyone is so fucking crazy I cannot even handle it sometimes. 4.0 students, that are athletic, naturally genius and have out livers….. you couldn’t imagine the shenanigans.

My best friend (and the birthday girl) are pictured here below. She wore a gorgeous, low cut, magenta romper, tan wedges, and accents of gold jewelry everywhere. I wore a pair of Snakeskin legging, with a black shirt that has a slit all the way up the back for a little sex appeal. Black Steve Madden wedges topped my outfit.

Stay tuned for more posts this week! I finally have time to blog again!

I will also leave my favorite DJ mix of the week. TCHAMI, amazing DJ, especially live. He has the deep and tech house down to a science. Stay fabulous my people.

Love Me Some Rose

Standard

I recently discovered a great liking for blush wines. The key for me is to find wine dry and not sweet at all. I came across a wine called Vinho Verde Rose. A winery called Broadbent produces the bottle. It is an exquisite taste of dry rose with a slight hint of carbonation. I truly recommend. Cheers!

Boston Part II

Standard

Ah, my weekend in Boston. Man do I not want to be working right now. This weekend was too good to want to come back to work. But here I am, listening to the Russians report Database issues and programming Risk Assessments… How exhilarating.

Boston was amazing.

Alcohol Picks for the Weekend:

Sam Adams Boston Brick Red: A unique and special beer, only native to Boston, home of the brewery. It has many hints of caramel and is an ale. Was great for the tastebuds.

Uncle Val’s Botanical Gin:  A small distillery labels batch and brew number with a pen. Such a unique, made with love gin. This gin is high quality and very potent. The botanicals in the gin are marvelous and it is really strong, 90 Proof. Beware. It will sneak up on you… (especially when drinking it from a granite spout).

redmart-067

Kendall-Jackson, Vintner’s Reserve, Sauvignon Blanc: A light and delicious wine. Very good for summer. Very light. The bottle on the picture below was also a Sauv. Blanc…. Not entirely sure if I remember it….. OOPS.

DRINKING in STYLE:

IMG_20140711_204822_678

Now I don’t know about anyone else, but I like to drink with style. For example, out of this rock…. It’s a slab of real heavy granite, with a hole for the top of the bottle to go in. Using PHYSICS, you can know that the air pressure keeps the bottle from draining out all the way (over the top) and only into the spout.

Rule Number 1: DO NOT put Champagne or any carbonated alcohols in the stone. IT WILL FIGHT BACK.

Boston is such a beautiful city. The architecture, bricks, Espalande… amazing. There were so many little shops and restaurants, it was so amazing.

The Espalande at Night

The newest restaurant I discovered is called Sweet Green. The freshest and best salads you could ever imagine. The minute you walk in, it smells like Basil. You can choose so many options and everything is super fresh. DELICIOUS!!! There is also one in Ardmore, PA, which I will be visiting most likely tonight, because Philly is just that good too.

We went to a lot of bars and walked all over the downtown areas. The streets and buildings are amazing. I wish I could speak more about some of the bars… but again, I don’t really remember. But they were serving some of the STRONGEST gin and tonics I have ever had.

A great weekend, a great town and a great many things I was able to experience!! I will end on this message: don’t forget to smoke your J’s, run your miles and look your finest all week. Fabulousness goes alooooong way! 😉 1405228005040
