Philly Life

Standard

This week ends a huge portion of my life journey to receiving my PhD in both Theoretical & Computational Chemistry and Chem-Informatics. I am finishing up my nine month job as a Systems & Strategic Operations Co-Op at Janssen Research & Development. I have loved living in the town of Conshohocken and Philly area. I have met so many great people it is going to be hard for me to leave.

As one last hoorah, my best friend David is coming to visit tonight and I’m finally going to get the chance to see Feed Me in concert. They are performing at the Theater of the Living Arts. I will most definitely be writing all about the show, and especially about finally being able to see the TEEEEEEEEETH.

There are a few people that I must mention in this post, because I have experience some great memories and had a lot of support from the very beginning.

To my landlord Tom: You go around raving about how I am your replacement daughter and that is a for sure thing. You were a great person to have around, to talk to and to laugh about life with. I will be back in nine months looking for my new place!

To my boss Adam: I have never met someone more like me in my entire life. You have inspired me so much. If everyone in the world was like you, things would get done the right way. You definitely will never leave my life. Your laugh and mind are too great and powerful for that.

To my amazing co-workers: You have taught me so much. To love what I do, to keep pushing and to relax and love the path I take. Never fear using my knowledge, and Devo and Birds are two of the best things in the world. (LOL.)

To Zahara, Mikey, Lana: Thanks for becomming my friend. You were so fun to get to now and to be around. You all share the love of designer bags and being fabulous with me. Love you all very much.

Much love and thanks to all the other people I didn’t mention. I am almost ready to start my trip back to NY, a week of rest and relaxation at my parents house and then off to my new apartment. I have a case of Rose waiting for me there. 😉

Moonrise Festival

Standard

I have just gotten back from a weekend in Baltimore, Maryland at the Moonrise Festival. Once again, spent the day eating up the sun dancing, drinking, smoking, raving and all of the happiness and peace the comes along with festival life. I am still in that mood where I’m to happy to actually be in real life. I do need to go into to work at some point today though.

The music was so amazing, production, lights, sound, people and DJs put on an amazing festival. The crowd was pretty decent, as sometimes their can be questionable people there, but I give the festival 4.5 Stars for sure. Good job Moonrise!

I met Anna Lunoe and the was probably my favorite festival experience. She DJ’d a phenomenal set. Disclosure, some of her originals, Don Diablo, and of course she introduced me to the new track Beat That Bitch With A Bat… Original artist is Blackman, pretty old classic.

This Diplo & Friends mix with Anna Lunoe pretty much describes her talented Djing skills and sick taste in music.

Figure was there and was fucking killing it on the DJing but the sound was off in the big dance tent compared to the other stages, and being the sound snob that I am, I left after a half hour. But Figure….. You’re a fucking bomb ass DJ.

Shiba San played this amazing house song called OKAY also. SO SO sick. THE BASS. Ahhhh, I still have the shivers. As for the rest of the shows and sets. AH-MAZING. Check out the line-up!

ROAD tRiPPiN

Standard

I don’t know about anyone else, but I love driving and road trips are extremely relaxing to me. With people or by myself, I am usually very content riding along in the car for extended periods of time. My standard Jetta and I have a great time zipping across the states. There are a few essentials to my road trip that make it relaxing and fun. Remember that you have to pace your intake of fluids in the car.

1. Diet Coke

2. FIJI/VOSS Half Liter Bottles

3. Fresh cut berries and mangos

4. Bowls on bowls (on bowls) [don’t try unless you are super woman like me]

5. Kombucha

I always always myself to stop and have a little fast food. It’s a such a awful treat but it also helps to give you enough carbs to soak up the booze for your late night drinking purposes. Which is usually what I am driving directly into. Never forget to grab napkins though, especially if you are as addicted to condiments on everything like I am.

Tunes are essential to great car rides. Here are some of my recent tunes. Enjoy.

Bar Isabella

Standard

My favorite restaurant and bar in all of the Philly region is definitely Isabella’s, a contemporary Mediterranean style bar featuring tapas and some really innovative dishes. Located in Conshohocken, PA, right in the outskirts of Philadelphia, the setting is a great little bar to come to. The tapas portions are great to order a couple things around to share. My personal favorites are the Calamari, Truffle fries and of course Caesar salads. Caesar salads should be a staple in everyones diet.

They have amazing Liquor Infusions, about three at all times, personally my favorite has been the cucumber infused gin, but that’s a given for me. Gin, gin, gin. Different drink specials are made up every day, some are really innovative! From a flaming toasted s’more martini to a berry rose spritzer, you can really get anything you desire. Bartender and restaurant manager Lana Fain is an essential member to the restaurant experience.

I had an Iced Coffee there the other night that was absolutely amazing. Chilled coffee, Rumchata, Kahlua and some other ingredients composed the drink and it was a Chemists dream. I couldn’t stop drinking them! The only think I truly needed was my periodic table coffee mug and I was perfectly wired to continue programming my heart away.

wpid-wp-1406195549042.jpegOther great drinks I’ve had is the Rose Martini and the wine selection is phenomenal. I urge you to come here if you are in the area. It’s amazing! The owner Tom would love to see you stop by for some fine wine and dining!!

Boston Part II

Standard

Ah, my weekend in Boston. Man do I not want to be working right now. This weekend was too good to want to come back to work. But here I am, listening to the Russians report Database issues and programming Risk Assessments… How exhilarating.

Boston was amazing.

Alcohol Picks for the Weekend:

Sam Adams Boston Brick Red: A unique and special beer, only native to Boston, home of the brewery. It has many hints of caramel and is an ale. Was great for the tastebuds.

Uncle Val’s Botanical Gin:  A small distillery labels batch and brew number with a pen. Such a unique, made with love gin. This gin is high quality and very potent. The botanicals in the gin are marvelous and it is really strong, 90 Proof. Beware. It will sneak up on you… (especially when drinking it from a granite spout).

redmart-067

Kendall-Jackson, Vintner’s Reserve, Sauvignon Blanc: A light and delicious wine. Very good for summer. Very light. The bottle on the picture below was also a Sauv. Blanc…. Not entirely sure if I remember it….. OOPS.

DRINKING in STYLE:

Now I don’t know about anyone else, but I like to drink with style. For example, out of this rock…. It’s a slab of real heavy granite, with a hole for the top of the bottle to go in. Using PHYSICS, you can know that the air pressure keeps the bottle from draining out all the way (over the top) and only into the spout.

Rule Number 1: DO NOT put Champagne or any carbonated alcohols in the stone. IT WILL FIGHT BACK.

Boston is such a beautiful city. The architecture, bricks, Espalande… amazing. There were so many little shops and restaurants, it was so amazing.

The Espalande at Night

The newest restaurant I discovered is called Sweet Green. The freshest and best salads you could ever imagine. The minute you walk in, it smells like Basil. You can choose so many options and everything is super fresh. DELICIOUS!!! There is also one in Ardmore, PA, which I will be visiting most likely tonight, because Philly is just that good too.

We went to a lot of bars and walked all over the downtown areas. The streets and buildings are amazing. I wish I could speak more about some of the bars… but again, I don’t really remember. But they were serving some of the STRONGEST gin and tonics I have ever had.

A great weekend, a great town and a great many things I was able to experience!! I will end on this message: don’t forget to smoke your J’s, run your miles and look your finest all week. Fabulousness goes alooooong way! 😉 1405228005040

Boston

Standard

This weekend I am going to Boston to visit my extremely intelligent, funny and handsome best friend. He is the brother I have never had. I’m extremely excited because its been some time since we could see each other being in two different cities. He’s always been my rock. Extremely rational and tell it like it is. It will be very good for me to get out of my town because working for a Pharmaceutical Company has really proven to be STRESSFUL. I’m working 70 hour weeks because my boss loves me and my work ethic. He loves that I am a crazy nerd, but lets be real…. I am still a baby, and Project Managing two projects is extremely difficult especially when people don’t want to take me seriously. You may be older and been in the industry for years, but there is a reason I am in charge, because I’m really smart and can bring a lot to the table. I have already far exceeded all expectations so I am not asking for a lot; trust my skills.

AMTRAK is awful. Business class is the way to go. Do you seriously want to sit next to someone or hours in pain over smell or sickness or let’s face it… That baby crying near you will drive you insane. Yes you’re paying more money but if you are like me, travel needs to be stress free not stressful. It is a vacation not a hate-my-life-cation. Anyway this is my bored on the train with no internet post. Check back for details of my weekend.

PS: THE THEME OF THE WEEKEND IS GIN. As always. UHDUH!!
