KAVA

KAVA
This weekend I discovered another herbal anti-anxiety that I believe works really well! It is called Kava (sometimes, Kava-Kava). It is a plant found and used by many Pacific Island states.

Some say it has holistic properties and some use it for anxiety. The thing to remember about Essential Oils ad Extracts are the same for any type of substance. Every person has a different tolerance so some people can really feel the effects and some people can hardly feel them at all.

The Genus and Species is Piper methysticum. The root of the plant is pulverized to make drinks or teas that can ease a person’s mind while maintaining clarity. It’s used for temporary relief from anxiety, stress, and insomnia. Kavalactones are the API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) that are in many anti-depressants and anxiety medications and can provide a similar state of mind but all natural!

If you have trouble with anxiety, I would check this out for sure.

Cheers!

(I find it funny I declared this a wine blog but….. we can intertwine a few subjects now and again!)

Rosé {R&R&R}

Standard

With the school year during intercession, and just working full time, I have been really on a R&R kick. There are a few things this break that have gotten me to this very calm, slightly reclusive, and health fanatic state. Also the time to be able to post my thoughts. Hopefully this semester will keep this track. I feel strong and better then ever, sometimes you really do just need a break from the chaos of it all.

~RosĂ© – I can honestly say that I have drank at least twenty bottles of RosĂ©. All different flavors, it is so amazing. Dry and bubbly, just the way I like it. My top three choices of this break were:\

  1. Old School Cinsault RoséOLD+SCHOOL+ROSE
  2. Broadbent Vinho Verde (As Always)
  3. Moët Chandon RoséRose-Imperial_fixed_1280x1096
  4. Mumm Napa Brut Rosé1_1522750_3

There is this new APP for both Android/iPhone platforms called *Delectable* which I have been using very frequently to track the wines that I drink. It is used a lot by Sommeliers and those who really know wine more so than casual wine drinkers but I very much so recommend all to start using it!

~Sauvignon Blanc

1. NYE was filled with much alcohol, and mostly Champagne & Sauvignon Blanc with two of my human beings from a hometown family. It was quite a messy situation, but we all made it out alive and standing…. I think. Anyway, the Wine was from Ninety Cellars, and has a delightful, crisp taste that is to die for.

~Gin & Lemon Whiskey Cocktails

I had many of these cocktails at one of my favorite bars downtown Rochester called Ox & Stone(http://www.oxandstone.com/). Great bartenders, great cocktails and a old timey feel with dim lights. Very nice for an evening of brooding. 😉

This weekend I will be traveling the East Coast to visit some dear friends and I will be loving the life for sure. I will be excited to document yet another trip of good food, good alcohol, and of course my best friends. As my relaxation continues, I must get back to work so as to finish all my paperwork before I depart tomorrow.

Boston, here I come!

Tea Tree Oil

Standard

Tea Tree Oil is one of my favorite all natural cure alls. It is good for your health, skin and all natural. It is taken from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia, which is native to Southeast Queensland and the Northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia. It has this calming and soothing smell about it.

tea-tree-oil_l

My favorite body wash is made with tea tree oil and it keeps my skin so nice and smooth. The brand is called Body Essence and you can get it basically at everywhere Wal-Mart, etc.

Buying the actual Tea Tree Oil, you can find it at The Vitamin Shoppe (in various brands and forms) but my personal favorite is The Body Shop, it treats blemishes really well.

I recommend that everyone start using this natural cure all and seeing what uses you can find for it. Google it, there are many different ways to use Tea Tree Oil! If you love your skin as much as I do… you WILL want this product.

Relaxation

Standard

Being an extremely high stress person, I tend to need specific activities that help me relax. Getting a massage is one of those activities. My favorite place to get a massage is the Lavender’s Body Care Clinic in Conshohocken, PA! They have a great selection of relaxation techniques and treatments that are at a pretty reasonable price. I have never left without feeling much better.

I tend to have really tight muscles from working out, sitting all day and stress, so I like to find the time to have someone workout all my knots. Massage therapy is a really great health benefit, no matter what people say. It helps reduce tension and release toxins, it helps to loosen up all those tight muscles that you can’t get to sometimes, and it’s extremely refreshing on your mental sanity. You know you have a good therapist when they ask you about previous injuries and knots you have… they should be able to know the body and how the frame of the human skeleton is supposed to feel. My lady picked up on my foot damage and the bone that never healed properly my first visit.

At first thought it seems like it would be great to smoke and get a massage, BUT DON’T! You lose a lot of sensation and feeling and it just isn’t as good when your neurons aren’t at top firing capabilities.

You can make your at home life like a spa sometimes too. A hot bath every now and then is wonderful when you can light a candle and make a steamy bubble bath. There are plenty of products with all types of natural and organic ingredients. Aromatherapy and color therapy are natural destressers that are great for your senses. My favorite brand of products for this are

http://kneippus.com/

from this site called Kneipp International. They practice colorology and aroma therapy and the products are amazing and last long. My personal favorite, the stress free, citrus filled bath product! Smells amazing and makes the bath water so orange and inviting!

Boston Part II

Standard

Ah, my weekend in Boston. Man do I not want to be working right now. This weekend was too good to want to come back to work. But here I am, listening to the Russians report Database issues and programming Risk Assessments… How exhilarating.

Boston was amazing.

Alcohol Picks for the Weekend:

Sam Adams Boston Brick Red: A unique and special beer, only native to Boston, home of the brewery. It has many hints of caramel and is an ale. Was great for the tastebuds.

Uncle Val’s Botanical Gin:  A small distillery labels batch and brew number with a pen. Such a unique, made with love gin. This gin is high quality and very potent. The botanicals in the gin are marvelous and it is really strong, 90 Proof. Beware. It will sneak up on you… (especially when drinking it from a granite spout).

Kendall-Jackson, Vintner’s Reserve, Sauvignon Blanc: A light and delicious wine. Very good for summer. Very light. The bottle on the picture below was also a Sauv. Blanc…. Not entirely sure if I remember it….. OOPS.

DRINKING in STYLE:

Now I don’t know about anyone else, but I like to drink with style. For example, out of this rock…. It’s a slab of real heavy granite, with a hole for the top of the bottle to go in. Using PHYSICS, you can know that the air pressure keeps the bottle from draining out all the way (over the top) and only into the spout.

Rule Number 1: DO NOT put Champagne or any carbonated alcohols in the stone. IT WILL FIGHT BACK.

Boston is such a beautiful city. The architecture, bricks, Espalande… amazing. There were so many little shops and restaurants, it was so amazing.

Dartmouth Ave., Boston, MA – The Brick and Wrought Iron is Stunning

The Espalande at Night

The newest restaurant I discovered is called Sweet Green. The freshest and best salads you could ever imagine. The minute you walk in, it smells like Basil. You can choose so many options and everything is super fresh. DELICIOUS!!! There is also one in Ardmore, PA, which I will be visiting most likely tonight, because Philly is just that good too.

http://sweetgreen.com

We went to a lot of bars and walked all over the downtown areas. The streets and buildings are amazing. I wish I could speak more about some of the bars… but again, I don’t really remember. But they were serving some of the STRONGEST gin and tonics I have ever had.

A great weekend, a great town and a great many things I was able to experience!! I will end on this message: don’t forget to smoke your J’s, run your miles and look your finest all week. Fabulousness goes alooooong way! 😉 1405228005040

Boston

Standard

This weekend I am going to Boston to visit my extremely intelligent, funny and handsome best friend. He is the brother I have never had. I’m extremely excited because its been some time since we could see each other being in two different cities. He’s always been my rock. Extremely rational and tell it like it is. It will be very good for me to get out of my town because working for a Pharmaceutical Company has really proven to be STRESSFUL. I’m working 70 hour weeks because my boss loves me and my work ethic. He loves that I am a crazy nerd, but lets be real…. I am still a baby, and Project Managing two projects is extremely difficult especially when people don’t want to take me seriously. You may be older and been in the industry for years, but there is a reason I am in charge, because I’m really smart and can bring a lot to the table. I have already far exceeded all expectations so I am not asking for a lot; trust my skills.

AMTRAK is awful. Business class is the way to go. Do you seriously want to sit next to someone or hours in pain over smell or sickness or let’s face it… That baby crying near you will drive you insane. Yes you’re paying more money but if you are like me, travel needs to be stress free not stressful. It is a vacation not a hate-my-life-cation. Anyway this is my bored on the train with no internet post. Check back for details of my weekend.

PS: THE THEME OF THE WEEKEND IS GIN. As always. UHDUH!!
