Moonrise Festival

Standard

I have just gotten back from a weekend in Baltimore, Maryland at the Moonrise Festival. Once again, spent the day eating up the sun dancing, drinking, smoking, raving and all of the happiness and peace the comes along with festival life. I am still in that mood where I’m to happy to actually be in real life. I do need to go into to work at some point today though.

The music was so amazing, production, lights, sound, people and DJs put on an amazing festival. The crowd was pretty decent, as sometimes their can be questionable people there, but I give the festival 4.5 Stars for sure. Good job Moonrise!

I met Anna Lunoe and the was probably my favorite festival experience. She DJ’d a phenomenal set. Disclosure, some of her originals, Don Diablo, and of course she introduced me to the new track Beat That Bitch With A Bat… Original artist is Blackman, pretty old classic.

This Diplo & Friends mix with Anna Lunoe pretty much describes her talented Djing skills and sick taste in music.

Figure was there and was fucking killing it on the DJing but the sound was off in the big dance tent compared to the other stages, and being the sound snob that I am, I left after a half hour. But Figure….. You’re a fucking bomb ass DJ.

Shiba San played this amazing house song called OKAY also. SO SO sick. THE BASS. Ahhhh, I still have the shivers. As for the rest of the shows and sets. AH-MAZING. Check out the line-up!

The Hangover

Standard

We all have one. One that was an hour. One that lasted two days. You cannot make them go away, but you can shorten their life cycle and reduce the sheer pain that one night of fun can do to yourself. I have had enough experience dealing with hangovers to know how to deal with it, though it is a for sure thing, the older you get, the worse they get.

There are some partial remedies that are super helpful:

Before Bed:

1. WATER

2. Kefir ~ Packed with healthy and helpful bacteria and vitamins, it provides digestive relief for the horrible feeling of a churning stomach. Also used frequently in my mother land of Russia for those awful vodka hangovers.

3. Eating something bad with carbs always helps to soak up some of the booze before bed. My best friend Molly always makes the best drunk grilled cheeses, always a GREAT option. Of course pizza, crackers, and munchie food are great options as well.

In the AM:

1. WATER ~ Can never drink enough!

2. Pure Juice Concentrate ~ You need something to get your blood sugar back to normal levels, that isn’t filled with processed sugar and other unnatural ingredients. Granted concentrate is more expensive, but it is worth it.

3. Greasy breakfasts ~ Toast, eggs, bacon or sausage, potatoes, and many grilled veggies help you to get back food and energy into your body. For those first morning meals, sometimes it’s best to find a diner or drive-thru to get breakfast.

4. Steam shower or bath ~ Opens up all pores and help remove so many toxins in the body very quickly. Revitalizes you like no other method.

5. Yoga and Stretching at the end of the day to help your body recirculate and to realign your bones and muscles from sitting or laying down for so long in recovery. Help to sweat out a few more toxins.

6. Smoking is one of the best cures for nausea and pain, so smoke away the day because you already know you aren’t going anywhere and you aren’t going to be productive.

ROAD tRiPPiN

Standard

I don’t know about anyone else, but I love driving and road trips are extremely relaxing to me. With people or by myself, I am usually very content riding along in the car for extended periods of time. My standard Jetta and I have a great time zipping across the states. There are a few essentials to my road trip that make it relaxing and fun. Remember that you have to pace your intake of fluids in the car.

1. Diet Coke

2. FIJI/VOSS Half Liter Bottles

3. Fresh cut berries and mangos

4. Bowls on bowls (on bowls) [don’t try unless you are super woman like me]

5. Kombucha

I always always myself to stop and have a little fast food. It’s a such a awful treat but it also helps to give you enough carbs to soak up the booze for your late night drinking purposes. Which is usually what I am driving directly into. Never forget to grab napkins though, especially if you are as addicted to condiments on everything like I am.

Tunes are essential to great car rides. Here are some of my recent tunes. Enjoy.

Now I know that I say that I am living breathing proof that you can be a successful and powerful person while giving into your devilish side too, but there are some days, weekends, or even weeks that you need to just give it all up. This weekend was certainly that for me. After working so much, such ridiculous hours and all the crazy expectations the past few weeks, I haven’t had a moment to relax. Not one. I took this weekend to do nothing. I couldn’t even write a new post!! I used to feel so weird if I wasn’t being productive or partying my life away on a weekend but now? I use it for rest and relaxation that I never seem to achieve.

Besides sleeping for most of the weekend… (when I say sleeping, I mean knocked out for most of the day and night), I use weekends that I am home and being lazy good for grocery shopping, meal planning and binging on the fresh produce you can find at Farmer’s Markets.

Especially making fresh fruit, veggie and protein salads for the summer that you can take out and snack on at anytime. Below are two salads that I frequently make and use as leafy green salad toppers. Kale, romaine, mesclun, and baby spinach are all different greens filled with fiber, nutrients and a lot of flavor.

Summer Corn Salad – Corn, red onions, peppers, parsley, cilantro, garlic, onion powder, sriracha, butter.

Corndish

Cucumber Dill Salad – Cucumber, red onion, garbanzo beans, dill, greek yogurt, garlic cloves, onion powder, celery salt.

I have MANY recipes for fresh salads if anyone finds them to be of there liking with specific ingredient amounts and such. I was trained in the kitchen and have a spectacular eye for culinary expertise! I will be starting to post the best recipes I can come up with to keep better track of the things that I love! It will also go along with my challenge for the week. Eat fresh everyone! 🙂

This Week in Health & Fitness

Standard

Considering that I sit in an office all day programming and such, it is very important I eat healthy and keep active. Of course my Fitbit helps with that, but it doesn’t discipline me or give me ideas to use for food and workout.

This week has also been crazy. I don’t even have time to workout coming in at 6 am and leaving at 4 pm at the earliest. Then there are chores, errands and all the yawning and caffeine in between. These are some key tips and rules I follow.

1. One thing people love is coffee. Caffeinated lattes full of syrups and whip cream. Justify that it is your coffee of the day, your morning treat… fine, but all those calories are NOT good for you. I am the same way. I loveeeee my coffee, iced lattes are especially my favorite. What I do to counter the calories is get all my drinks made with skim/non-fat milk or soy milk. I even have brought Starbucks a thing of Almond milk before to make my drink. Say no to the whip cream and syrup and you can really enjoy your coffee without sacrificing your favorite morning latte.

2. BREAKFAST is SO IMPORTANT – Believe what you want, but eating a breakfast every morning is key to starting your day and kick starting your metabolism into gear. It helps you maintain your weight and eating habits a lot more easily. Simple fixes are yogurt, fruit, almonds, Kefir or Kashi Go-Lean whole grain cereals. I personally will do this 2/5 days a week, but I LOVE my breakfast. Starbucks and Panera are my quick stops in the morning if I don’t have time to cook my own or want the cooks at my job to make me breakfast. They have great low calorie sandwiches with egg whites, spinach, wheat flat breads, etc. for a healthy quick fix. I have yet to mention my addiction to Hot Sauce yet, but essential to all my breakfasts. Egg white omelettes, veggies, turkey sausage and always Rye or Whole Grain breads are the way to go.

3. HOT SAUCE is ESSENTIAL to me. Hot sauce is very good for your metabolism. The capsaicin which creates the heat speeds up digestion and your metabolism in a good way. Frank’s Hot Sauce, Sriracha and Chipotle Tabasco sauces are all apart of my diet.

4. SALADS are so goof for filling up and eating a lot without all of the adverse calorie effects. I eat salads 1-2 times a day and they are my favorite food. Anything just tastes better over a fresh bed of lettuce to me.

5. STOP EATING WHITE BREADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Literally switching everything white to whole grain is the most essential thing for your diet. It is so much better for you and your digestion and you can really tell. I personally think that Rye and Whole Grain breads taste millions times better than a plain bagel or very white slice of bread.

6. SNACKING is the best. I snack all day long and it helps so that I don’t reach a starving point of the day. Carrots with dip, almonds, grapes and yogurt are all apart of my snacking of the day. The small amount of calories is not something I hate to sacrifice if it saves me from gorging at the end of the day.

7. My last tip is for Stoners. Now I understand munchies…. I understand more than most. I get them very frequently. It is a great to have all these little healthy snacks stocked up, pre-cut and dip made before you smoke or before you get tired because then your snacking dilemmas are already solved. I don’t want to hear an excuse for eating horrible foods either. 1-2 times a week is okay if you can keep a steady diet for the rest of the week.
